St. Clement's Episcopal Church was born to the service of the Lord and the Inkster Community in 1936. It began as a mission of the Diocese of Michigan under the leadership of the Rev. Malcolm Dade. St. Clement's closed its doors in 1941 because their Vicar accepted another position.

In 1943, St. Clement's reopened under the leadership of Samuel F. Williams, a lay reader from St. Cyprian's Church in Detroit, using a building that was donated by Mr. & Mrs. Henry Ford. The building was located at the corner of Harrison and Cherry Streets. At that time the infant church consisted of five faithful members.

In 1949, Samuel F. Williams was ordained to the priesthood and given full charge of the mission. In 1959, Fr. Williams launched a plan for a new church building to be constructed at its present location at Harrison and Pine Streets. In 1965, the year that Fr. Samuel Williams died, the mission called the Rev. Frederick B. Williams to be its vicar.

In 1967, St. Clement's applied for and was accepted as a parish in the Diocese of Michigan making Fr. Frederick B. Williams its first rector. Since then, St. Clement's has had seven rectors namely; Frederick B. Williams, Joseph Weathersby, Peter P. Q. Golden, Roger Prokop, Jacob A. Welbourne, Beverly A. Moore-Tasy and our current rector, Ellis Clifton, Jr.
